Allen,

I recently spoke to Riona about her condition, the Taint, and she told me she talked with you about it as well at the blood drive. I want to do everything I can to help her find a cure, but as it involves the supernatural, I cannot do it on my own. Would you be willing to look into it as well?

That's right, I remember her mentioning the Taint. Of course I'd be interested in helping.

What has she told you so far about it?

It's a blood borne pathogen that originates with a species they call darkspawn. And an archdemon is involved somehow too, but I'll admit that I don't quite understand that aspect, so I'm hoping you'll be more help there. Most infected individuals die within a few hours or days, losing a good deal of their cognitive functions before they do. Riona is carrying it, though the pathogen's progress has been slowed in her and won't kill her for a few decades yet. She's willing to answer any other questions we have for her or to offer blood samples if need be. However, I have not done so yet, in case it triggers an unexpected response, on account of the darkspawn influence.

I see why you'd want me to look into it. [It's all up in demon land here] I would like to take the blood samples, if you don't mind. The pathogen sounds a lot like the Akuma virus of my world, so I'll be able to tell quickly if it has the same properties- and have better protection from it as well.

Did she say how the pathogen's progress has been slowed down for her?

Of course. It makes more sense for you to take the samples than for me to. It’ll be a lot safer that way.

As for how she has survived this long without the disease progressing, no, she didn’t tell me. She was clearly upset at the time, and since there was no immediate danger, I didn’t want to push her any further. However, I would suggest now that we arrange a time for all three of us to talk and to develop the best plan of action.

Mm, I agree with that plan. I don't want to make any choices of action until I know all the information I can about the situation.

I don't either. And I did tell her that we may not be able to find a viable solution, so she is prepared for that possibility, though I do have hope we can help.
