[Another pause.]

I made too much food. I don't mean a couple plates extra. I mean, um, Pilgrim's Bounty. Twice.

- Oh my God.

[!!!!!!! HE HAS TO PINCH HIMSELF BECAUSE HE'S HAD THIS DREAM BEFORE]

[AND OMG, PINCH WORKED. ITS REAL!!]

This isn't a problem! I'll be right over!

[Belthazar is entirely serious.]

Oh wait! Is there meat? If there is, Sokka should know about this too! [SOKKA CAN DO IT HE BELIEVES IN HIM]

Can the two of you really eat all this food?

Ha- I think we can! And if not, I can think of some other people I can call!

[He makes a somewhat concerned face. Good thing Allen can't see it.]

Hopefully that won't be necessary. I don't do well with crowds.

[....Of course you don't do well with crowds. That is somehow not at all surprising. But whatever, Allen won't argue. He's not the biggest fan of crowds either after his experiences as an Exorcist]

Would you prefer if we just took the food off the ship and gave it out to people? That way everyone won't have to come to the Bishop.

[That's... actually a pretty good idea.]

I don't mind. If I did this at home I would just feed the homeless, but... that is not an option, here.

Don't worry, your food will go to plenty of hungry mouths. It won't get wasted.

[There's a verbal keysmash when he's called out on it.] I-it's-- I just-- it's not kind, it's something everyone should be doing rather than ignoring them. And besides, I spent quite a few years homeless and starving, so it's not as if I don't know what it's like--

[He rubs at his nose and tries to reclaim whatever is left of his dignity.]

I'm not used to them. [He considers. Allen is all right, maybe he ought to know... at least a little of the truth.] People are not very kind where I am from. I know the Fleet is different, but it took me a while to acknowledge it.

Ah...I can understand that.

[He means it truthfully too. There's been times in his life where he was surrounded by so much cruelty that...well, it was hard not to assume that cruelty wouldn't show up in everyone]

If it helps, I spent a long time not having a home too.

But yes, really. It wasn't until I was fifteen that I had a room I could call mine.

That's... [A pause.] ... very similar to what I experienced. It's hard to find people who understand, or care.

[He adjusts his sleeves invisibly.]

As for me, I got tired of being spat on so I stopped looking up when people walked by. I learned to be self-sufficient under any and all circumstances, even if it means pushing people away.

But... you're not like that.

[There's a pause]

...I used to be. A long time ago. I mean, even now I prefer to take care of things myself. But...

[There's a beat as he gives a shrug]

Well, I learned at some point...that shoving people away didn't make it hurt any less.

Ah... Sometimes I still have to be reminded of that.

[Usually by people who stick through his tantrums.]

Ah, I'd imagine so.

[He's offering him a smile. Even if it can't be seen over the audio, it can be heard in his voice]

But hey, you're not alone anymore, okay? Adrasteius, Ino, Hiro, Sokka, me- and everyone else you know here. You got all of us now.
